We're absolutely thrilled to share some very special news: Broighter Gold has been named a finalist for the Food Producer Award at this year's BBC Food and Farming Awards -one of only three producers selected from across the entire UK.
For a family farm on the north west of Northern Ireland, this is a moment we never quite dared to imagine.
From a Field of Rapeseed to a National Stage
Broighter Gold began life in 2009, and launched in 2011 as a diversification project on our family farm - the same land that's been farmed by our family for six generations. What started as an idea to press our own cold-pressed rapeseed oil has grown into something we're incredibly proud of, built step by step, harvest by harvest, alongside my partner Richard.
There have been early mornings, long days, and no shortage of challenges along the way - that's farming, and that's a family business. But there's also been an enormous amount of care poured into every bottle, and a real belief in doing right by our land, our animals, wildlife and the people who choose to bring our oil into their kitchens.
To be recognised alongside just two other producers from the whole of the UK is a huge honour, and a reminder of how far we've come since those first days pressing oil on a sixth-generation family farm.
What This Means to Us
Awards like this aren't just about us - they're a celebration of Northern Irish food and farming, of family businesses who take the harder, slower, more considered path, and of everyone who has supported Broighter Gold along the way: our staff, our customers, our stockists, our local community, and everyone who has ever picked up a bottle of our oil and told a friend about it.
We'll share more details on the awards ceremony soon - for now, we just wanted to say thank you. This finalist place belongs as much to you as it does to us.
